The 2016 annual reunion took place on Saturday 21 May 2016 in Plymouth attended by over 130 people. The day started with the laying of a wreath at the Plymouth Hoe Falklands memorial attended by survivors of HMS ARDENT as well as family and friends of the fallen who make up the HMS Ardent Association.
This was a first for the Association as they had not been in Plymouth together on the 21st May and been able to attend the annual wreath laying service together on such a large scale before and therefore made into the local news.
In the afternoon the Association gathered in the Church of St. Nicholas, HMS Drake to remember their 22 fallen shipmates with a service led by the Reverend Ken Bromage RN who spoke of the courage and sacrifices of ARDENT’s crews over the years, not just in the Falklands but also the first and second world wars.
The Association president, Admiral Lord West, read out the roll of honour to the backdrop of the new memorial crosses, one for each member of the 22 men killed in action on the 21 May 1982.
A full report on the reunion weekend will be made available soon and will be in the next issue of our newsletter.
