Seven next of kin of our shipmates lost in action onboard HMS Ardent on the 21 May 1982 were presented (some by post) with Elizabeth Crosses by our president Admiral Lord West at The Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel at Pangbourne on Sunday 30 September 2012.
The Service was led by The Reverend Neil Jeffers the Chaplain of Pangbourne College assisted by The Reverend Father Nick Gosnell CF(RC) the Falklands Families Association Chaplin. A wonderful solo performace was given by Miss Kathryn Nutbeem who is a member of the Falklands Families Association.
Speaking after the presentations Barry Hayward, the twin brother of Able Seaman Sean Hayward said, ” It has been an enormous honour to receive this medal. Sean died in service to his Queen & Country and would have been enormously proud today. It was a pleasure to meet his Commanding Officer.”
